The 2 Railroad Commissioners
The railroad commission is overseen by two commissioners, Barry Smitherman and David Porter.
Barry Smitherman grew up in a working neighborhood of Houston, Texas. After graduation from high school, he attended Texas A and M University. Then he attended Harvard University. His first job was as a prosecutor for Harris county where Houston is located. Barry was appointed to the office by Governor Rick Perry.
David Porter is from Washington state where he earned his degree as a CPA from Harding University. Before being elected last year to a six year term as a commissioner, he built a successful CPA firm in Midland, Texas. His main clients were energy producers.
